15 Questions w/ Johny Fitness

Conducted by IPW Owner Troy Peterson

1 When did you break into professional wrestling?
My first involvement was in March of 2001. Its been awhile now...The time has went fast...The best i can figure ive had about 75 matches in my career.

2 What made you want to become a professional wrestler?
I was always a fan of wrestling growing up.I watched Central States Wrestling with Bulldog Bob Brown and Rufus R. Jones..Then i graduated to Georgia Championship Wrestling and eventually watching WWE....
T.S.  is who got me involved with wrestling...He encouraged me and i had met most of the crew b4 i started...Ive said b4 the wrestling really came along at a great time for me and offered a positive direction for my weekend activities!!

3 What was your first ever match?
I tagged up with Gage Octane to face Thrillcat and Vixen at the Coliseum in Dubuque....We lost and it was all Octane's fault because i did my 1 move perfect.:)Johny Fitness

4 Who are some wrestlers that influenced you most in the ring?

There are three people that really shaped who i am as a wrestler...

T.S.- I think the strongest part of my wrestling is understanding how to make a match flow and keep the people interested...Last year alone T.S. and i spent well over 100 hours traveling together and talking wrestling 90% of the time...Ive learned so much from all our traveling together...

Gage Octane- I have learned alot from wrestling with Gage.I have watched tapes of his matches and learned alot about communication and also making your opponent look good...He is a class act in and out of the ring...

Mr. Destiny- I think Destiny opened my eyes and helped me take my wrestling up a notch..You dont have to over think a match ...Its better to have  some ideas (spots) and insert them when the crowd dictates it.

5 What has been your favorite match?

I have quite a few favorites....Backwash at Sec Taylor Stadium....T.S. in Crystal Lake...Destiny in Delta & Worthington...

6 Who has been your toughest opponent?

Physically its Destiny,Havyk and Wicked Lester...For whatever reason i always feel like ive been hit by a semi truck after         wrestling those guys!!

7 What has been the highlight of your career so far?

To be honest its probably winning the IPW WRESTLER OF THE YEAR and MOST POPULAR WRESTLER  of 2004 .......Its something that can never be taken away from my time in the ring!! There are so many talented guys on the roster it was a great honor to be awarded.

8 Do you have any regrets in the wrestling business?

I regret that i didnt start at a younger age...I also wish i was fully trained when i started...Its been a learning experience along the way.  Although i still have plenty to improve on i finally feel like a complete wrestler.

9 What is the worst injury you have suffered in the ring?

Probably tearing ligaments in my ankle during a match...A few months back i took a good chair shot to the lower back with the chair facing the wrong direction...I think that was a big factor in the bizarre lower back, ass, hamstring problem ive had....Its the price you sometimes pay to hear the roar of the crowd......

10 What do think of the current state of indy wrestling in the state of Iowa?

I think its in a great spot!! A number of feds offering very good wrestling with believable looking wrestlers....There is something for everyone...Impact Pro Wrestling is leading the charge..

11 Why do you think the fans love you so much?

I think there are a few reasons..  The IPW Storylines...When I had  the belt i was really an underdog!! I got ambushed by chairshots, speared over and over again, adrenaline rushes and constant run-in beat downs.....Even though i had the belt for awhile i was always in over my head with all the cards stacked against me....Its hard not to root for that guy.

I think ive learned to wrestle with emotion..Its something Kenny Backwash & Rampage Ruska are very good at.  T.S  has driven it deep into my tortured soul..It helps pump energy into the crowd and make them care...

I make every effort to talk to fans, sign autographs or  take pictures with them...Ive been snubbed by people i wanted to meet and ill always take the time to connect with the fans...I also think its helps draw people back to our shows...

12 How much longer do you see yourself in the squared circle on a regular basis and how would you like to be remembered?

WOW!!! Thats a question i have pondered alot lately...My life seems to get busier and busier as my boys grow older...For the past 6 months my body has told me its time to quit...Its my heart that keeps me going ..I really enjoy entertaining the fans and being around all my friends...Id like to ride the wave a lil longer so ill probably wrestle a little less than i have the past few years.

13  How would you like to be remembered when your done wrestling?

First off it would just be nice to be remembered when your gone.I guess id like to be thought of as a team player and a wrestler who kept improving until the very end...Id like to think when the fans hear "California Love" by Tupac they'd remember ole Johny Fitness ....

14 What do you find most attractive in the opposite sex?

There are alot of things..If its a straight up physical question then its all about the "junk in the trunk" for Johny Fitness...Otherwise a nice personality and a sweet smile can go a long ways...I AM BOOTYMAN....

15 What would your advice be to anybody wanting to become a professional wrestler?

First off id say get in the gym and make yourself look like a wrestler..Then you need to hook up with T.S. and the IPW Training Camp...What a unique situation...You get the best training in the world from T.S and other very experienced guys(Ash,Octane,Destiny.etc..) and also the ability to get booked on shows that regularily draw over 200 peeps...Where do i sign up at??
